During a visit to Nairobi in early January 2009, CiV President D.J. Smith had the opportunity to spend a day with I Choose Life - Africa (ICL). ICL was making final preparations for the launch of a new campaign, JIJUE 1 Million which encourages 1 Million Kenyans to be tested and know their HIV status by 2010. A plan for a new web presence for JIJUE grew out of these discussions over the following weeks.
Given the short timeline, CiV's team created a multi-phased approach. The first phase of the site will be focused mostly on promoting the launch, testing events and two concerts in Nairobi. A follow-on phase will provide additional social media capability, including video from JIJUE events.
The homepage features a dynamic Flash 'counter' which will tally the number of Kenyans tested as the campaign progress. Site visitors can also view photos pulled from a moderated Flickr group for JIJUE. In addition to a blog, there is a mobile version of the site, Twitter integration, share tools and a Facebook Cause.
"The eight-hour time difference often made things challenging but our friends in Kenya have been a joy to work with." D.J. added. "It's been an amazing experience to feel connected in some small way to such a worthwhile effort, one we all hope will help save lives."

“It’s been great to see the response to the site by local media and young people,” said Gregg Mwendwa, Director of the JIJUE 1 Million Campaign, “I think the resources on JIJUE.org provide a critical connection point for people interested in being part of the movement.”
“We’ve really enjoyed our partnership with D.J. and the CiV team on this project.”
"Together, we have developed a valuable platform to launch this important campaign. CiV came up with a creative solution on a short timeline and they actually made the whole process fun, too.”
